Campaign Photography

NBC News has an interesting blog post looking at the role of photography in political campaigns dating back to Abraham Lincoln.  The blog states that Lincoln was the first candidate to embrace the medium.  That leads to the question: why was Lincoln so quick to embrace photography?  Roosevelt’s sonorous voice was well-suited to radio, and Kennedy was made for television.  It is less clear how Lincoln benefited from widespread use of his picture.
